Appendix 15 - Selection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by health and care workers (HCWs) during the provision of care

Note: This appendix is currently under review to align with the addition of footnote 8 to Appendix 11

The following table outlines the recommended PPE required to minimise the risk of cross-transmission of infection to self and others when providing care.

Clinical decisions made by staff regarding use/non-use of PPE will depend on a risk assessment which should include for example the presenting symptoms, risk of acquisition and the availability of treatment.

The table can be used in conjunction with Appendix 11 and the A-Z of pathogens for pathogen specific guidance and supporting materials.
